Nacreous or Polar Stratospheric Clouds

Here's another couple of photos of the Antarctic Nacreous Clouds from today at Black Island...

They are most impressive to see in real life. It looks like the whole northern sky is on fire.
Regular photos really do not do them justice.
I took a whole lot of High Dynamic Range shots, but they will have to wait until I get back to McMurdo to be processed.

WOW! The first time I ever heard about these clouds (via the AAD website), I emailed a colleague who used to work in Antarctica in the '80's and quietly hope that he 'accidentally' got some similar shots too!! The colours are exquisite...I can't begin to imagine a whole sky overhead like that. Truly special - thanks for your pics.

      Beautiful!
Loved the "golden iceland" shots and aurora borealis photos too - especially the New Year one (nyttar). Thank you for sharing...

Hi Pati, I have heard from some of the researchers that PSCs have been forming in the extreme north in recent years.
That cloud in the middle on the left definitely has that classic pearlescent quality to it.
